LAWRENCE, Pa., U.S.A. April 14, 2004 - Axcera, a leading provider of transmission equipment for the television broadcast and broadband wireless access industries, today announced that has delivered a Visionary™ Series IOT transmitter using the L-3 CEA series multi-stage depressed-collector inductive output tubes (MSDC IOT).
Following the final acceptance of the L-3 CEA MSDC IOTs for use in its Visionary Series high power transmitters, Axcera has shipped its Visionary DT transmitter equipped with the CEA 130D to Louisiana Public Television. The transmitter will serve Baton Rouge on Louisiana Public's flagship digital station WLPB-DT, channel 25. The system installation is planned for later this month.
Louisiana Public Television is looking forward to experiencing the efficiency advantage of depressed collector technology, and appreciates the level of comfort provided by the versatile Visionary series transmitter design. According to Frank Kleinpeter, Director of Engineering for Louisiana Public Broadcasting, "we wanted to take advantage of the new high efficiency tube technology since power consumption is a substantial expense. However, we have previously experienced problems with ongoing support of new tube technologies. By selecting the Axcera's Visionary DT, we have a much higher comfort level since the transmitter can be easily field-converted to accept various other tube types, including traditional single-collector tubes."
Axcera is very happy with the performance and design of the CEA. According to Rich Schwartz, Axcera's director of marketing and product management, "The CEA meets all of its published performance specifications and the L-3 team has been very helpful throughout the acceptance process. We are pleased to add the CEA 130D and CEA 80A to our list of approved tubes for our Visionary Series transmitters."
Axcera's Visionary series transmitters offer broadcasters the highest level of versatility available, with the capability of operating with single- and multi-collector tubes from multiple manufacturers in either digital or analog service. Axcera has approved the L-3 CEA and E2V ESCIOT for both digital and analog operation in the Visionary, allowing broadcasters to take advantage of the substantial efficiency improvements even for their analog channels.
