APRIL 13, 2005, LAWRENCE, PENNYSLVANIA, U.S.A. - Axcera, a leading manufacturer and integrator of best-of-breed technology for the television broadcast and broadband wireless access industries, today announced that it will introduce its new Dual-Use™ analog/DTV transmitter at the NAB 2005 trade show and exhibition, April 18th through 21st in Las Vegas, NV.
The heart of the Dual-Use transmitter is Axcera's new DM8 card-based DTV modulator for 8VSB. The DM8 modulator is designed to plug directly into Axcera's modular Innovator Series exciter chassis and offers excellent DTV performance with digital linear and non-linear pre-correction. For Dual-Use operation, Axcera transmitters can be configured with both the new DM8 DTV modulator card and an analog modulator card, allowing the broadcaster to switch between analog and DTV operation at the touch of a button, both locally and by remote control.
Dual-Use offers substantial advantages for both high power and low power broadcasters. For high power broadcasters, Dual-Use allows a single Axcera broadband transmitter to simultaneously back up both a main analog and a main DTV transmitter, eliminating the need for separate analog and DTV standby transmitters. An Axcera Dual-Use transmitter eliminates the cost of a second backup transmitter, and saves valuable floor space.
For low power broadcasters approaching the digital transition, Dual-Use allows Axcera transmitters to "flash-cut" between analog and digital operation on demand, at the touch of a button. With Dual-Use, an Axcera transmitter can even be switched between DTV and analog operation during the programming day, allowing LPTV broadcasters to maintain both DTV and analog viewership throughout the digital transition.
Dual-Use is available on all Axcera Innovator LX and Innovator HX transmitters. The Dual-Use equipped Innovator LX transmitter will be on display at Axcera's booth, number C8014, at the NAB 2005 tradeshow and exhibition.
