APRIL 13, 2009, LAWRENCE, PA and LAS VEGAS, NV, USA - Axcera, a leading manufacturer and integrator of best-of-breed technology for the television broadcast, mobile media and broadband wireless access industries, today announced demonstrations of the latest leading edge television transmission technologies at the National Association of Broadcasters trade show, April 20th through April 23rd, at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Axcera will showcase a demonstration of Distributed Transmission Technology (DTS). Broadcasters are finding DTS the most effective DTV transmission solution especially when terrain shielding creates gaps in coverage. DTS employs multiple transmitters operating on the same frequency in a single frequency network (SFN). Distributed transmission allows the use of multiple on-channel transmitters to target population centers and improve coverage in weak signal or shadowed areas, without the need for additional channels and translators.

DTS was recently authorized by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and applications for DTS stations may now be submitted.

DTS is also the ATSC Mobile DTV transmission solution to improve in-building coverage to mobile handheld receivers - often a requirement for commercially viable mobile TV service. Mobile TV is unlike fixed TV service, where viewers in weak signal areas can improve reception with directional rooftop antennas. With mobile TV, receivers are close to ground level, are often indoors, and use relatively small omni-directional antennas that can be oriented in any plane. In addition, mobile TV receivers are not just portable; they can be mobile, meaning they are often moving, which introduces Doppler effect and other challenges. Fortunately, Distributed Transmission Systems (DTS) which, up to this point have only been used in fixed broadcast networks, is the ATSC Mobile DTV transmission solution to improve in-building coverage to mobile handheld receivers. Axcera is the industry leader in DTS technology and the only company to commercially deploy DTS, some for over five years. Axcera will be displaying its latest DTS products as well as its ATSC Mobile DTV transmission products in the Axcera booth, C1319.

Axcera is also providing several educational opportunities regarding DTS. Axcera VP of Product Management, Rich Schwartz, will be presenting a paper in the SBE Ennes workshop titled "Improving DTV and Mobile TV Coverage through On-Channel and Translator Technologies" (Saturday, April 18 at 2:45 - 3:30 PM, LVCC S219/220). In addition, Axcera will be offering DTS technology tutorials at its main booth, C1319 at 1:00PM and 4:00PM from Monday April 20 through Wednesday April 22. It's a great opportunity for attendees to learn about single frequency (DTS) and translator transmission technologies in the conference and tutorials, and to see the systems in operation by visiting Axcera booth C1319.

Axcera's DTS solutions on display will include Axcera's DTxA Distributed Transmission Adapter as well as the DTS capable Axciter™ digital television modulator, the most advanced exciter available today.

Axcera's ATSC Mobile DTV solutions on display will include Axcera's ATSC Mobile DTV pre-processer/multiplexer which combines terrestrial and mobile content into a single transport stream feeding an ATSC broadcast transmitter and the ATSC Mobile DTV capable Axciter digital television modulator.

"As broadcasters' interest in optimizing coverage for ATSC Digital Transmission Systems continues to grow, we are pleased to demonstrate the most cutting edge transmission solutions available to NAB 2009 attendees, allowing them to experience these technologies first hand." said David Neff, President of Axcera.
