Crown Castle Mobile Media Chooses Axcera to Supply DVB-H Transmitter Systems for Mobile Video Service

Axcera to Provide Turnkey Systems for Initial Build Out

APRIL 18, 2005, LAWRENCE, PENNYSLVANIA, U.S.A. - Axcera, a leading manufacturer and integrator of best-of-breed technology for the television broadcast and broadband wireless access industries, today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Crown Castle Mobile Media to provide DVB-H transmission packages.

According to the agreement, Axcera will provide equipment, integration and support for Crown Castle Mobile Media’s initial deployments of its anticipated DVB-H based mobile video service.

Axcera will provide equipment packages, including satellite dishes and receivers, DVB-H transmitters and climate-controlled outdoor enclosures. Axcera will also provide comprehensive integration services including complete factory system testing and FCC type acceptance, staging, installation and commissioning, as well as ongoing technical support for each cell site.

In order to fulfill Crown Castle Mobile Media’s requirements, Axcera designed a line of L-band transmitters based on Axcera’s popular Innovator LX low power television transmitters. The new product line is available in power levels ranging from 50 watts to 400 watts in single and diversity configurations. The design will provide Crown Castle Mobile Media with the reliability, high efficiency and excellent MER performance that are required for this application.

Crown Castle Mobile Media chose Axcera for its broad experience in transmission equipment, system design and integration in both the television broadcast and broadband wireless industries. According to Michael Schueppert, President of Crown Castle Mobile Media “Axcera is a key supplier in our plans to build a DVB-H network. We look forward to leveraging Axcera’s expertise as Crown Castle Mobile Media continues its efforts toward the provision of rich media services to mobile devices.”

According to David Neff, President and CEO of Axcera, “With the fast-developing interest in mobile video, the robustness of the DVB-H standard, and the ability to deploy a country-wide network, we believe Crown Castle Mobile Media has the winning formula for success. We are honored to partner with Crown Castle Mobile Media in the deployment of this exciting new technology.”
