Axcera to Team with Crown Castle Mobile Media on DVB-H Mobile Video Demos at NAB 2005

Axcera Provides DVB-H Transmitter Systems and Project management Support for Live Mobile Media Demos in the Microsoft and Axcera Booths

APRIL 18, 2005, LAWRENCE, PENNYSLVANIA, U.S.A. -- Axcera, a leading manufacturer and integrator of best-of-breed technology for the television broadcast and broadband wireless access industries, today announced that it is teaming with Crown Castle Mobile Media to provide the DVB-H transmitter systems and project management support for two live mobile video demonstrations at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2005 trade show and exhibition, April 18 to 21 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The DVB-H signals will be broadcast from both the Microsoft booth, number SL332, located in the lower South Hall of the LVCC, and the Axcera booth, number C8014, located in the Central Hall, using Axcera Innovator LX solid-state low power Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) transmitters. Visitors to both booths will have the opportunity to sample the user experience by viewing live program content on the latest portable handsets. The exhibits will demonstrate the effectiveness of the global DVB-H standard in successfully delivering multiple video streams to mobile handheld devices.

Since its formal adoption by the DVB Organization in 2004, there has been growing interest in the use of DVB-H technology for the delivery of high quality video and other services to mobile handsets. Unlike many current mobile multimedia offerings that consume valuable bandwidth resources used for voice and two-way data services, DVB-H networks provide a separate path to the handset, truly enabling the “triple play” in a mobile environment.

“We are pleased to work with Crown Castle Mobile Media and Microsoft to show the exciting capabilities of this new technology to the NAB 2005 attendees,” commented David Neff, President & CEO of Axcera.

Axcera’s popular Innovator LX is a compact, modular transmitter designed for high efficiency, redundancy and excellent MER performance. It is available in DVB power levels ranging from 50 watts to 2000 watts average, and in single path and diversity configurations. This very popular digital transmitter is part of Axcera’s full line of low and high power DVB-T and DVB-H transmitters, available in frequency bands from VHF to 2.7GHz.
