Axcera Introduces Innovator™ LX Series Digital and Analog Low Power Transmitters at NAB 2003

New Product Line Promises to Meet the Needs of Broadcasters Like No Other Transmitters on the Market

LAS VEGAS, NV April 5, 2003, UPDATED NOVEMBER 19, 2003 – Axcera, a leading supplier of high-quality equipment and systems for the television broadcast and broadband wireless access industries, today announced it will introduce its latest low and medium power transmitter line at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas, Nevada next week. Many broadcasters today are looking for a transmitter solution that not only provides a low initial investment, but also allows the equipment to be used in a future upgrade to full power. However, most high power exciter/drivers are expensive when used as standalone transmitters, and low power transmitters typically do not offer the features and performance required for this application.

In realizing this market need, Axcera set off to develop a completely new product to specifically address these requirements. The result is the Innovator™ LX Series. This new low to medium power transmitter line uses the latest amplifier technology, tuned broadband, in a very compact package and is available for both analog and DTV applications. It offers a completely modular design with a chassis/backplane configuration and it can be used to drive a high power transmitter with nearly 100% reuse. Some of its advanced features include:

Broadband Amplifiers
This was key to a successful design as many broadcasters plan to return to their current analog channel once the DTV conversion is complete. Fully broadband amplifiers, which cover the entire UHF band without any tuning required, allow simple and inexpensive channel changes. This feature also benefits low power and translator operators facing future channel displacement. An additional benefit to broadband is the ability to substantially reduce spare parts stock for broadcasters with multiple stations.

Compact Size
A Innovator™ LX with a single, fully populated power amplifier (PA) chassis provides an amazing 1000 watts analog/500 watts digital output power and uses less than 30 inches of rack space! Multiple PAs can be combined for power levels to 6kW analog/3kW digital.

Upgradeability
The Innovator™ LX can be configured to be nearly 100% upgradeable to a high power transmitter in the future.

Digital Modulator
Axcera’s new DT1C digital modulator includes both linear and non-linear pre-correction to ensure excellent signal performance.

Reliability
The Innovator™ LX uses parallel amplifier and power supply modules that can be removed and replaced while the transmitter is on the air.
