Axcera Receives Numerous Awards at NAB 2005

Winner of Broadcast Engineering "Pick Hit" and "Engineering Excellence" awards, TV Technology "STAR" Award and Television Broadcast "Top Innovation Award"

JUNE 15, 2005, LAWRENCE, PA, U.S.A. - Axcera, a leading provider of transmission equipment for the television broadcast and broadband wireless access industries, announced today that it is the recipient of four prestigious awards presented at this year’s National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) tradeshow and exhibition.

Axcera is the proud recipient of TV Technology Magazine’s STAR Award for its DVB-H Transmission Technology. As a leader in DVB-H transmission systems, Axcera conducted DVB-H demonstrations covering both the South and Central halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center throughout the show. The STAR Award (Superior Technology Award Recipient) celebrates and showcases the preeminent technological innovations available to the broadcast industry. “Our panel of editors and columnists walked the show floor in search of innovative and ground-breaking new products,” said Tom Butts, Editor of TV Technology. “The products we selected made the cut—they demonstrated their ability to help advance the acquisition and dissemination of entertainment media in each category reviewed.”

Broadcast Engineering Magazine issued its “Engineering Excellence” award for Axcera’s implementation of the combined multi-channel digital (DTV)/analog television transmission system on Mt. Wilson. The system uses both digital and analog Axcera Visionary™ Series IOT transmitters to serve the Los Angeles, California area. The Mt. Wilson system is the largest multi-transmitter installation of its type. The award recognizes Axcera’s outstanding capabilities in transmitter system design, project management and implementation.

Broadcast Engineering also presented its prestigious “Pick Hit” award for Axcera’s new Dual-Use Analog/DTV transmitter technology. At the heart of the “dual-use” transmitters is Axcera’s new DM8 digital modulator card. When paired with an analog modulator and exciter switcher, the DM8 allows Axcera’s Innovator LX and HX line of transmitters to effectively “flash-cut” between analog and digital service by remote control or directly from the transmitter front panel. This can be an appealing option for low power and Class A broadcasters, as well as full-service broadcasters that wish to back up both an analog and digital signal with a single standby transmitter.

Television Broadcast magazine also chose Axcera’s “Dual-Use” technology to receive its “Top Innovation Award”, recognizing the value of this innovative analog-digital transmitter solution.

“We are honored to be recognized by these industry-leading publications for the innovation and capabilities that we offer,” said Richard Schwartz, director of marketing and product management for Axcera. “Our focus is to provide the best and most advanced products and services to the television broadcast industry, and these awards reinforce Axcera’s position as the broadcast technology leader.”
